Investmentbanken, Retail Banken, Hedgefonds, herkömmliche Fondsgesellschaften und Private Equity-Fonds benötigen allesamt Fachkräfte für Human Resources (HR), die das Management ihrer Mitarbeiter – des „Humankapitals“ übernehmen. Im Grunde genommen obliegt es der HR-Abteilung eines Unternehmens sicherzustellen, dass die Mitarbeiter, die für die gesunde Funktion des Geschäfts benötigt werden, Tag für Tag und Woche für Woche bei der Arbeit erscheinen. Manchmal sind HR-Mitarbeiter auch für die schwierige Aufgabe verantwortlich, Mitarbeiter freizustellen.
Die Arbeit in HR weist sowohl eine starke Personen- als auch Prozessfokussierung auf. Bei HR-Berufen in Banken hat man einerseits mit den Eigenheiten von Einzelpersonen zu tun, andererseits muss man die Gesetze zur Personalbeschaffung und -entlassung in dem Land, in dem das Unternehmen tätig ist, einhalten. HR-Mitarbeiter sind z. B. dafür verantwortlich sicherzustellen, dass es beim Einstellungsprozess zu keiner Diskriminierung auf der Basis des Geschlechts oder der ethnischen Zugehörigkeit kommt. Weiter obliegt ihnen die Verantwortung dafür, dass Freistellungen auf einem fairen Auswahlprozess beruhen.
HR-Teams sind auch für die Durchführung alljährlicher Leistungsbeurteilungen verantwortlich. Diese sind in der Finanzdienstleistungsbranche von besonderer Bedeutung, da die Ergebnisse einer solchen Beurteilung ein wichtiger Faktor bei der Bestimmung der Höhe der Jahresbonusse für Mitarbeiter darstellen.
Obwohl es sich bei HR-Mitarbeitern um Generalisten (Allrounder) handeln kann, sind viele HR-Stellen in Spezialkategorien unterteilt. Dazu zählen: Mitarbeiterbeziehungen, Einstellung von Absolventen, laterales Recruitment, Recruitment Marketing, Spezialisten für Entschädigungen und Sozialleistungen sowie Experten für Schulung und Weiterbildung.
Während Banken und Finanzdienstleister ihre eigenen firmeninternen Fachkräfte einstellen, umfasst dieser Bereich auch sämtliche Stellenangebote im externen Recruitment bei Finanzfirmen, Search-Firmen und Headhuntern sowie sogenannten RPO (Recruitment Process Outsourcing Organisations).
Diese externen Recruitment-Firmen erleichtern den Recruitment-Prozess für die Finanzdienstleister, in deren Auftrag sie tätig werden. Beispielsweise platzieren sie Annoncen, sortieren Bewerbungen, erstellen engere Auswahllisten und führen die ersten Bewerbungsgespräche. Externe Recruitment-Firmen sind typisch in zwei Kategorien aufgeteilt: Contingency Recruitment Firmen und Search-Firmen oder Headhunter. Contingency Recruitment Firmen erhalten nur dann eine Gebühr, wenn sie eine Person finden, die dann tatsächlich vom Kunden eingestellt wird. Search-Firmen und Headhunter erhalten eine Vorschussgebühr dafür, dass sie einen Pool potenzieller Kandidaten identifizieren, die für die Stelle geeignet sein könnten. Während Contingency Recruitment Firmen üblicherweise Stellen ausschreiben und auf die Antwort von Kandidaten warten, nähern sich Headhunter und Search-Firmen den potenziellen Kandidaten proaktiv und weisen Kandidaten darauf hin, dass sie ggf. für eine „interessante Stelle“ in Frage kämen.
