Morgan Stanley Investment Management offers investment management services to global investors, investing in equity, fixed-income and alternative products on a worldwide basis. As a member of the Morgan Stanley Investment Management Operations group, the individual will play a leadership role as part of our Fund Operations group in Europe, taking primary responsibility for the on going enhancement and execution of controls relating to (CASS). The individual will work closely with third party service providers and be accountable for the broad oversight program including regular service reviews, periodic testing and on-site due diligence.
The Operations division is both the first line of defence for protecting Morgan Stanley's financial and reputational well-being, and an essential partner contributing to the firm's growth. Facing off to all Morgan Stanley businesses and interacting with all other parts of the Firm, the Operations division supports a complex, multi-faceted portfolio of businesses in full compliance with regulatory guidelines and the directives of the Operating Committee and Board of Directors. Members of the Operations team have a unique vantage point as the division touches all parts of the business, front to back. One of the largest divisions in the firm, Operations has diverse responsibilities, including correctly settling and recording millions of transactions per day, identifying and mitigating all operational risks, developing strong client relationships and partnering with technology to realize the full potential of IT and e-solutions. Throughout, we continually strive to improve while actively supporting the development of new businesses, structures and markets.
Morgan Stanley’s Investment Management’s product range is continually evolving into new product and strategy areas, demanding ever changing infrastructure and solutions. The individual will be required to facilitate discussion with all impacted parties and other infrastructure areas to ensure that the appropriate controls are in place.
This person will report into the Head of European Fund Services.
Responsibility for the maintenance and enhancement of the CASS strategy in Investment Management Operations
Ownership of the CASS Governance Framework, Risk Control Assessment (RCA) and Risk Appetite documentation
Ownership of procedures and policy documents
Responsibility for the maintenance and development of Management Information (MI) and periodic reporting to governance committees and boards
Conduct root cause analysis and trend analysis on any breaches
Maintenance and enhancement of the periodic testing and on-site due diligence program
Supervision of CASS change management internally and oversight of third party service provider programs
Assist in understanding the impact of regulatory change as it relates to CASS and specific changes to CASS regulations
Ownership for the CASS calendar and specifically ensuring the periodic review of procedures, policies, trust letters and due diligence as described in the CASS rules
Assist in the ongoing development of CASS specific training for Investment Management professionals
Support the evaluation of the CASS capability of existing staff and work to identify and close any training or knowledge gaps
Working with other infrastructure groups including legal, compliance, audit, CASS compliance and firm wide operations
Direct CASS related experience at either an Asset Management firm, Third Party Service Provider, Auditor or Consultant
A background in investment operations, risk or compliance would be advantageous
Experience in relation to the most recent changes to CASS rule PS 14/9
Experience in dealing with senior stakeholders including governance committees and boards
Program management skills and a general proficiency in Microsoft Office is desirable
