Partner - Origination & Execution, Entrepreneurial Mid-Cap Private Equity, Munich

Our client is a distinctive private equity business, investing its own capital into mid cap, high growth opportunities in a range of technology-enabled subsectors. It is led by a group of operational entrepreneurs who have built their own businesses and draw on this success to add incremental value to their investments. The firm wishes to hire a senior investment team member to spearhead the push for proprietary dealflow, going direct to other founders to build long-term relationships and explore potential partnerships. This role will combine research, sourcing / marketing and the whole cycle of deal execution and is expected to be at partner level in the team.

  • Represent the firm actively in the market, networking at events, getting to know target companies and working up investment proposals internally and externally
  • Develop a long-range list of targets, finding angles and theses and ultimately bringing deals to the table. There is a clear preference to do this direct to owners but working intermediary channels will also be part of the role
  • You will also be involved in structuring, diligence, financing and negotiations, as appropriate, during the execution phases - this is not intended to be a ring-fenced origination only job.
  • Work with all other members of the team, from managing partners to analysts to structure the deal pipeline

  • Top priority is an outgoing personality - a natural relationship builder, keen to get out and meet entrepreneurs and explore ideas, able to win trust and think creatively to differentiate the firm and bring deals over the line.
  • This is far more than just a sales job and you have to balance the sourcing with a rigorous analytical approach to spot genuine growth stories AND genuine investment opportunities. You need to bring real commercial insights to spot the right deals and make them happen.
  • The role is likely to appeal to someone working in relevant industries as a strategy consultant (at or close to junior partner level), an M&A adviser or possibly with another private equity group, though previous buyside experience is not essential.
  • The firm is very operationally engaged and to be effective you should bring a similar mindset, digging into what makes each business special and how good companies can grow even faster, leveraging all available ideas and resources
  • Native level German and fluent English are required. You should also be willing to travel as necessary to generate great deal flow.
