IT Operations manages the IT infrastructure and supporting services that are critical for HSBC employees and customers, such as cost-efficient hardware, system software, middleware and databases, data centres, voice and data networks, ATMs, desktops and other devices. It employs around 8,500 employees globally and comprises five functions: Client Services, Enterprise Services and Architecture, Data Centre and Service Management, Relationship Management, Project Management and PMO, and Risk and Administration. Collectively, these areas define and deliver HSBC's technology strategy to support the Group's goals.

We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Head of Fixed Income and Balance Sheet Management Information Technology - APAC.

Principal responsibilities
  • The Head of Fixed Income and Balance Sheet Management IT APAC will have overall accountability for the development and operations of the IT that supports the Fixed Income and BSM business within Global Markets. They will report directly to the Global Head of Fixed Income and BSM Technology.
  • The Head of Fixed Income and Balance Sheet Management IT - APAC is expected to play a key role in defining the overall strategy for the Fixed Income and Balance Sheet Management Global Markets Technology functions. They will champion IT and the role that IT will play in achieving the strategy, including balancing priorities to optimise customer experience, and financial performance of the Fixed Income and BSM business within the Asia Pacific region.
  • The Head of Fixed Income and Balance Sheet Management IT - APAC will work with the global business line in determining how to measure, manage and improve technology performance in line with the key business objectives.
  • They will have a strong customer focus and understanding of the Fixed Income & Business Development Management businesses products and customer segment.
  • The job will require strong collaboration with peers across IT, the Global Business and Functions and technology and services partners.

  • The successful candidate must therefore be able to:
    • Navigate HSBC's unique complexity and its need for consensus-driven decision making
    • Work with the Fixed Income and Balance Sheet Management Technology function, and other stakeholders to ensure an effective strategic response to the business growth plans
    • Provide senior business face off in APAC as deputy for Global Head when needed
    • Ensure communication and leadership link between Regional, Product and Functional heads
    • Define a challenging IT change programme in response to business drivers
    • Maintain a high level of performance from a large and complex existing platform whilst key elements are upgraded and major new components are introduced in response
  • The APAC Head of Fixed Income and Balance Sheet Management Information Technology - APAC reports locally to the head of Global Banking IT APAC and functionally to the Global Banking CIO for the Americas, based in New York.
  • In turn the Global Head Fixed Income and Balance Sheet Management Information Technology is looking to the role holder to work in partnership with the Fixed Income and Balance Sheet Management Technology Leadership Team on a day to day basis and will also be looked upon to provide leadership out of Asia.
  • Although budget and prioritisation are determined centrally, once agreed Senior IT managers operate with significant autonomy, and are fully accountable for their budget and deliveries
  • The Global Banking and Markets business is a global organisation with large trading floors in London and Hong Kong, and significant presence in New York, Paris, Shanghai, Dubai and Mumbai.
  • In response Global Banking and Markets HOST IT is also a global organisation, with significant teams located in London, New York, Paris, Hong Kong, Pune, Toronto and Guangzhou.
  • To manage this geographically diverse workforce, HSBC has a culture of strong regional management, with many employees enjoying matrix management

The successful candidate will:

  • Have an degree in a relevant discipline, or significant IT systems experience
  • Be recognised as a senior Investment Banking technology leader with significant industry experience
  • Have significant experience of managing senior trading-business stakeholders on a day-to-day basis
  • Have run major IT programmes to a successful conclusion
  • Have managed globally distributed IT teams
  • Have experience of software delivery using offshore resources
