Infrastructure Technology Solutions (ITS)

ITS is part of the TD Bank Group (TDBG), one of Canada's largest financial institutions. ITS designs, delivers and maintains available, adaptable, secure, and cost-effective infrastructure-based technology services to TD and supports the bank's vision and strategy to be the best-run, most integrated, customer-focused, financial institution in areas where the bank competes.

Working with technology and business partners, ITS delivers and maintains all internal (employee facing - computers, phones, mobile, software and hardware) and external (customer facing - banking, trading and monetary vehicles supported by electronic systems) infrastructure technology solutions that support the bank. ITS plays a critical role by providing this computing / network foundation in support of 1600+ applications serving 22 million customers and hundreds of millions of transactions daily, and in support of the ongoing productivity and mobility of TD's 85,000+ staff.

With a North American-wide workforce, ITS has centers located in Toronto, Scarborough, Mississauga, Barrie, London in Ontario, Canada and New Jersey, USA.

Job Description

The Application Delivery Network Engineer position is part of the Network Engineering - Security Team within ITS - Core Infrastructure Services. The Network Engineering - Security team is responsible for Integration and Engineering for Perimeter DMZ Designs, Firewalls, IDP/IPS, Local & Global Load Balancers, SSL Decryption, Proxy Services & URL Filtering. This role will lead the engineering and design of solutions of the core Application Delivery Networking components of the firm; leverages core networking technologies as F5, Akamai, Routing & Switching, QoS in conjunction with Web Application Fluency at layers 4 -7 to optimize the performance of existing and new applications; acts as a trusted advisor to the application development teams to ensure performance and resiliency requirements are optimized.

This role will be responsible for solutions in the following areas:

Application Delivery & Load Balancing:
F5 Technologies (LTM/GTM, iRules, WAM/AAM)
Network Application Protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, BGP)
Cloud based Web Acceleration Technologies & CDN (Akamai)

The successful candidate must have demonstrated ability to architect, engineer, design and document solutions in these areas of Application Delivery working closely with the Application Development, Core Network & Security Engineering teams to ensure proposed solutions incorporate best practices for Web traffic optimization.

Requirements

On a day-day basis the Application Delivery Engineer is responsible for:
Leveraging F5 technologies to architect solutions for traffic balancing within WEB application platforms
Partner with the Application Development groups to understand new requirements or major initiatives in customer facing Web applications and offer ways to optimize flows
Leverage iRules and design solutions for improving the taxonomy of application specific rules with maximum efficiency and minimal complexity
Analyze existing application flows with a deep understanding of all protocol layers and proactively promote technology ideas that can add value, reduce costs or optimize performance & customer experience to each of TD's core businesses

This role is a critical entry point to the Network Engineering Organization interacting with multiple lines of Business, peer Infrastructure teams, Application Development, Vendors and Service Providers - Job Requirements include:
Experience in Complex WEB Application Architectures
Experience with AND solutions in Highly Virtualized Environments
Experience in providing guidance and technical solutions from existing product & design catalogue or gather requirements to drive new solutions
Experience in creating high level and technical presentations and communication skills to explain the approach to a varying audience
Proven ability to work in a fast paced environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities
Proven ability to collaborate across a large organization to effectively realize outcomes
Experience with regulatory / compliance requirements
History of making an impact, developing and executing on strategies and delivering superior results in both the short and long term
Proven ability to leverage deep subject matter expertise to develop and deploy a vision and help align others to that vision.
Listening and engaging others to provide input in the shaping of that vision

Work closely & collaboratively with Internal Engineering, Application Development, Deployment & Operations teams to drive design adoption across IT
Experience with Vendor Management and coordination concepts from multiple facets of the industry
Provide support to internal customers through innovative solutions creating sustainable and maintainable environments.
Ability to make engineering design decisions, solves technical problems, and makes improvements to our systems.

Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent work experience.
