About The Job


Standard Chartered Bank continues to challenge the capabilities the Technology organization. In response to these demands, Technology is looking to bolster its Infrastructure Deploy Services team within the Infrastructure Portfolio and Program Management team.
An Infrastructure Project Manager is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of infrastructure solutions in response to infrastructure service requests from business and technology alike, The end-to-end delivery of infrastructure is achieved through the execution project delivery framework in accordance with the firm's infrastructure delivery lifecycle and project management methodology based on PMI philosophy.
While scale, scope and complexity of projects may vary, most are required to be delivered under tight deadlines, across multiple geographic locations, with demanding stakeholders and under strict financial scrutiny. Additionally there is an expectation our IPM will manage multiple projects simultaneous without issues, nor delays.
In order to achieve success, applicants will need to leverage skills and experiences in the following fields.

  • Project Management Methodology, PMP, Prince II
    e.g. structure, governance, controls, scheduling, resource management, issue & risk management, reporting, stakeholder management, assumption and dependency management and financial control
  • Communication & Collaboration - both verbal and written
  • Infrastructure Design & Operational Support/Handover
  • Change Management




The Role Responsibilities
  • Initiating & Planning
    • Develop a deep understanding of our clients requirements and how best to respond from an infrastructure perspective - taking into consideration their past experiences, their immediate challenges, and their strategic roadmap.
      An appreciation of how the wider financial markets industry plays into the hopes and aspiration of our own business would be hugely beneficial.
    • Planning - collaborate with stakeholders to develop a project management plan to deliver the infrastructure solution as designed, on time and to budget - and in accordance with the banks infrastructure delivery lifecycle process.
    • Ensuring availability of required resources to deliver projects to the agreed time line and budget.
  • Controlling / Executing
    • Orchestrate the end-to-end delivery of infrastructure solutions in response to requests from (a) financial markets software development, (b) corporate real estate services, (c) financial markets front, middle and back office businesses, and (d) the infrastructure organization itself.
      Oversee the infrastructure design process, ensuring the solution meets the requirements and is in accordance with associated architecture & operational standards and/or strategic infrastructure initiatives such as obsolescence.
    • Identify, mitigate and communicate key assumptions, issues, risks and dependencies to master projects & relevant control and governance committees.
    • Ensures internal process, standards and risk compliance (including security, regulatory and audit requirements) are met e.g. IDF, Riskwise, KCSA, SRA. Look for opportunities for continuous improvement.
    • Ensuring that systems are commissioned following appropriate change control processes, and with knowledge transfer, training and required operational documentation provided to the Business-As-Usual (BAU) teams
    • Where required, re-engineer solutions due to any changes in scope, ensuring effective project change control and reforecast.
    • Review of solutions post-implementation & follow through to project sign-off & closure
  • General
    • Developing an effective partnership with our partners in (a) financial markets software development, (b) corporate real estate services, (c) financial markets front, middle and back office businesses, and (d) the infrastructure organization itself.
    • Provide line management, mentoring and coaching of staff
    • Act as a role model demonstrating the Bank's core values at all times.




Our Ideal Candidate


Skills and Experience
The following skills are required to be successful in performing this position.
  • Technical
    • Preferably have Certification in Project Management (e.g. PMP, Prince II)
    • Must have extensive Infrastructure Project & Solution Delivery Management Experience - 5yrs+
    • Must be experienced in a complex, multi-national organization - an advocate of team multi culture and collaborative working - a strategicthinker with a commercial and pragmatic approach
    • Must have exposure (preferably 1 or more technically in depth) and understanding of infrastructure technologies; including open systems (UNIX/Windows), databases, storage area network, local/wide area networks, middleware, application servers, software development environments, high availability, systems management, and security infrastructure.
    • Must be able to manage and responsibly navigate barriers to progress.
    • Must be able to identify risks and issues, mitigate and communicate to the project team, program management and associated steering committee members.
    • Must be able to prioritize (including multi-tasking) and control activities and deliver results within budgetary and resource constraints.
    • Must be able to manage external (vendor) resources.
    • Must have experience in leading technical, time critical projects (mutli-tasking as required)
    • Must have experience of managing project finances - forecasting, actuals, accruals, estimating
  • General
    • Must possess excellent communication, collaboration, presenting and influencing skills, particularly in liaison with internal & external service providers and senior leadership - excellent ability to create a network & influence decision making process
    • Must be independent and confident, but willing and able to harness the expertise of others.
    • Must be able to work effectively as part of a team, and individually with minimal supervision
    • Preferably have exposure to a structured development lifecycle and related deliverables and work processes, including experience of working cohesively with application development teams/leaders.
    • Preferably engaging all levels of senior management
    • Preferably have strong interpersonal and leadership skills - the ability to easily develop effective relationships with colleagues across the firm would be hugely beneficial.
    • Ideally past experience of working in technology operations, or infrastructure solutions architect experience - including any technical certifications
    • Ideally experience in working with application development teams in systems development support and project deployments.
