The Securities Reference Data platform is used by over 800 applications, providing real-time instrument data across Morgan Stanley including to trading, middle office and settlement functions. We scale to support millions of financial products, and ingest millions of records each day from Reuters, Bloomberg, direct Exchange feeds and other external sources.

Role Profile:



Morgan Stanley’s Securities Reference Data platform holds millions of financial products, and responds to millions of queries every day with its dynamically scalable APIs and distribution platform. The critical systems are used by hundreds of teams, providing real-time instrument data to functions across the firm including trading, risk and settlement.

We are looking for an experienced Java developer to join our strong London team. You will work on projects to develop and deploy fault tolerant data services that underpin both risk and trading. You will lead development for one of these services, taking ownership of architecture and coordinating a small local team developing in both Java and Scala.

You will be challenged to innovate and embrace change to deliver for clients, working with them to set priorities and to drive an agile process. You will get involved in all aspects of the SDLC including design and architecture. On top of Java/Scala, you and your team will have strong skills in relational databases, caching technologies and test frameworks.

Responsibilities:


  • Application development on robust, large-scale, real-time systems in Java/Scala

  • System ownership, leading a 2-4 person agile team

  • Implementation of appropriate caching and messaging technologies

  • Provisioning of APIs or services to a large enterprise customer base

  • Engaging with clients and consumers to set priorities





Qualifications:


Required Skills:

  • Strong development experience with Java or Scala

  • Messaging experience, for example MQ/Kafka/JSON/XML/Protocol Buffers/Avro

  • Strong experience with unit testing

  • Strong experience with SQL and relational databases

  • Unix/Linux experience
