Job Description Summary Video has become a key battleground for the giant Internet companies like Amazon, Apple, Google, Facebook and Netflix. Pay TV companies are also investing heavily; fighting to stay relevant. This is leading to a momentous increase in the amount of content being created, how it's consumed and massive disruption in the technology ecosystem used to distribute it.

IHS Markit is seeking an experienced candidate to lead our research coverage of video encoding, processing, storage and distribution markets. Vendor and customer strategies for these are changing rapidly, as they seek flexible solutions for video distribution. This role is an opportunity to be a part of this dynamic industry through researching, forecasting and commenting on key developments; influencing the strategies our clients develop to enable this industry. The ideal candidate will be working under minimal supervision, while being responsible for leading the video processing, storage and distribution research within the Technology, Media & Telecoms group at IHS Markit.

Specific Duties:
As a principal research analyst for video technology the successful candidate will lead the creation of detailed research reports, presentations and bespoke consulting projects. The candidate will assume a client-facing role, attend events, speak at conferences, present key data findings to customers, serve as a thought leader and a recognized expert in the industry.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide expertise in the market for video processing, storage and distribution, with focus on the media and entertainment industry
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers for business development purposes, and with key industry players to facilitate primary research
  • Attend conferences, events and vendor briefings, which will include domestic and international travel
  • Write research notes to deliver regular written opinion for clients on hot topics in this space, including technology shifts, regional and vertical activity, key product announcements and M&A
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the trade and business press, providing useful data and opinion in publications, raising awareness of our services and brand
  • Suggest enhancements to the existing services and ideas for new services which could be offered
  • Provide subject matter expertise and support for consulting projects
  • Work with a global team of colleagues
Qualifications:
  • 5 or more years of related industry or analyst experience. Previous experience with companies that provide video infrastructure equipment and related services is highly desirable
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, engineering, mathematics, science, statistics or industry-related fields required; post-graduate degree is a plus
  • Solid understanding of video infrastructure technologies, vendors, service providers, products, services, and market and technology trends
  • Experience with market segmentation and analysis; forecasting experience is a plus.
  • Experience conducting primary or secondary research using a variety of tools (phone surveys, web, and publicly available documents like financial and regulatory reports)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as ability to write English clearly and concisely
  • Expert analytic, logic, and quantitative skills
  • Proficiency with MS applications (Excel, Word and PowerPoint), including an understanding of Excel charts and pivot table creation and use
  • Highly effective organization and prioritization skills, including the ability to stay on task and maintain focus in a fast-paced environment
  • Understand difference between analysis and advocacy
