Reporting to the Senior Technical Manager, the incumbent will be a member of the Collaboration Infrastructure Services Team with a primary focus on the Collaboration infrastructure, Exchange, Active Directory, Azure AD, O365 and Skype for Business.

Purpose of your role

Reporting to the Senior Technical Manager, the incumbent will be a member of the Collaboration Infrastructure Services Team with a primary focus on the Collaboration infrastructure, Exchange, Active Directory, Azure AD, O365 and Skype for Business.

On a day to day basis the role will be to provide engineering leadership to projects needing input from global messaging, directory infrastructure and related products. The candidate would also be responsible for keeping product roadmaps up to date, planning core infrastructure upgrades including high level budget submission and ensuring all ancillary commercial and asset management systems are accurate.

It is expected that the candidate will work closely with peers across disciplines and foster a relationship of trust, understanding and synergy. The role requires technical leadership, presentation skills both at a technical level and a senior management level. From time to time the candidate would be expected to support operations teams in major incidents as well as with vendor support teams. A key requirement is the individual would be able to identify skill gaps in team members and work with them in a mentoring capacity to improve the skills of the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Senior Technical Management, Product Owners and Project Managers to lead the implementation and upgrading technology across the Collaboration stack
  • Help deliver service improvements without unnecessary investment in new products by working smarter, provision of better tools and better use of existing product set
  • Improve alignment of Technology solutions with Operational areas to focus on practical delivery of solutions architecture to FIL using experience from across the Windows Server product set
  • To act as Subject Matter Expert ('SME') for Exchange, AD, Azure or other linked products
  • Adherence to Security Policy surrounding platform standards and provides engineering solutions to that policy as directed by the Security Product roadmap
  • Ensures operational requirements are matched in the delivery of services around standards and engineering, identifying when support arrangements may need to change in order to efficiently and effectively onboard new technology
  • Owns and manages the performance and capacity management of the infrastructure
  • Owns, maintains and plans product lifecycle as product owner ensuring roadmaps are maintained and fit with vendor roadmaps and overall strategy of all product owners
  • Ensures effective communication across the department and across geographically dispersed teams, including identifying new skills, skills gaps and working to improve overall team knowledge
  • Excellent communication at all levels, can clearly articulate plans verbally (comfortable presenting) and in written form.

    Work independently as technical lead on projects on behalf of the Collaboration Infrastructure Services Team as well as manage junior members in the team who are acting as technical resources, be able to make informed decisions and update manager on progress / concerns

    Experience & Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience covering design, implementation & support for Exchange and Active Directory
  • Experience of Microsoft Cloud technologies including Azure & Office365 and associated infrastructure e.g. AD FS, AAD Connect?. Migration and operational experience is highly desirable.
  • Excellent Exchange 2010 or 2013 design, troubleshooting & administration experience
  • Excellent Active Directory 2008/2012 design, troubleshooting & administration experience
  • Excellent Windows Server 2008 R2? / 2012 R2 / 2016? build, configuration and troubleshooting. Demonstrable experience of Windows Server Core would be an advantage
  • Deep understanding of Group Policy, best practices, design, use, implementation and troubleshooting
  • Advanced PowerShell scripting for Windows, Exchange and AD administration, reporting and change
  • Good experience of implementing, managing and troubleshooting Lync 2010 / 2013 / Skype for Business
  • Good experience of using MDM based technologies, particularly BlackBerry (formerly Good) and Intune suites
  • Good experience of security principles, least privilege, segregation of duty, audit events and be able to discuss implications with InfoSec specialists
  • Experience of Private Key Infrastructure (PKI), Active Directory Certificate Services and associated protocol standards as implemented on Windows
  • Experience with SQL 2008 R2 and SQL 2012
  • A strong understanding of networking concepts and technologies such as HTTP, SMTP, DNS, TCP/IP, and other web protocols, proxies and load balancers
  • Experience presenting & reporting to technical and management teams
  • Knowledge of VMWare Virtualisation platform (Highly Desirable)
  • ITL certified (Desirable) with a knowledge of structured change management.
