The Role: Sr. Director Commodity Solutions - Refined Products, Product Development & Management

The Location: Houston, London or New York City

The Team:
This role sits within the S&P Global Platts Product organization and leads a team that works closely with customers to understand requirements and ensures delivery of products that meet Customer needs and aligns with business strategy. We are looking for a Director with a client centric focus to help drive growth and expansion of our solutions in the Refined Oil market. This role reports to the Platts Chief Product Officer.

This position provides the opportunity to play a highly involved strategic role within S&P Global Platts by defining and managing the business plan for our various commodities. This role supports the development life cycle of S&P Global Platts products globally in the Refined products commodity. This position will partner with stakeholders in technology, sales, sales support, marketing, operations and the broader product management team to: (a) assess and size market opportunities to feed into product (develop and improve new and existing products) through desktop and market research; (b) support go-to-market activities in partnership with other cross functional teams; (c) support product positioning by developing and delivering thought leadership in the form of topical research for this space and other marketing driven collateral.

The Sr. Director Commodity Solutions - Refined Products will act as a business owner and manage a specific commodity solutions line. The S&P Global Platts Product organization is organized by commodity including (Crude Oil & Shipping, Refined Products, Global Gas & Power, Petrochemicals and Metals & Agriculture).

  • Lead the Refined solutions Product team
  • Create strategic Product plans and roadmaps for the Refined products commodity to grow the S&P Global Platts business.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Customers in the Refined solutions space
  • Drive and deliver customer revenue and margin growth and instill the discipline to deploy Capital effectively and prudently manage costs within Refined solutions
  • Own solutions for Refined products markets across all capabilities (Price Benchmark, News & Analytics) and delivery mechanisms (Desktop, Data Feeds & API)
  • Act as a Refined Solutions Product champion to ensure that key objectives are prioritized in alignment with the company strategy and in support of priorities set by the Platts Executive Committee
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the Product organization, Commercial, Marketing, Content, Analytics, Technology, Finance and other internal stakeholders within the S&P Global business in a highly matrixed environment
  • Identify opportunities for improvement to the online user experience using available data resources and analysis Perform detailed competitive analysis with respect to product/content capabilities
  • Monitors and influences the regional financial targets and goals for newly launched Products in collaboration with the Commercial organization
  • Develop and communicate a clear execution vision for Refined Products in collaboration with the Product, Commercial Content, Marketing & Technology teams matching execution to the strategic vision
  • Manage a team of Product Managers who will execute in three key areas:
Manage BAU and transition the existing product portfolio for Refined solutions from legacy delivery mechanisms into our single web platform Understand market need for Refined products and within the technology framework, create value add solutions into your main "commodity solutions line". Ideate, research, document, size and defend solid business plans for the advancement of the franchise in the region advocating for most pervasive and profitable enhancements/new product opportunities. Manage the process to launch new content and capabilities, in addition to retiring end of life or redundant product offerings before transitioning to our single technology platform

Basic Qualifications:

  • A confident leader with a decisive nature and the ability to drive execution, influence, negotiate and challenge
  • Strong, relevant, current knowledge of the Refined product ecosystem, including markets, supply chain, workflows and knowledge of commodity information products
  • Strong customer mindset with demonstrated ability to engage directly and honestly
with customers on all issues and always deliver positive experience to customers
  • Experience working in relevant environments, i.e. Commodity Trading, Analysis, Production,
Consumption, Analytical tool development
  • Strong knowledge of front office trade analysis/trade support/risk management
capacity in global commodity trading organization; experience at a commodities front
office decision support/market data/analytics vendor
  • Experience managing teams of people with a focus on execution and delivering long term results. Experience in coaching and performance management essential
  • Ability to drive transformational change in a matrix organization
  • Proven track record of creating Product roadmaps and executing against these roadmaps
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas effectively, strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to explain complex commodity concepts in simple terms
  • Excellent Executive presentation skills with the ability to take on internal and external high-profile presentation responsibilities
  • A track record of continuous improvement and an excellent understanding of how to successfully implement change
  • Ability to work under pressure and juggle multiple projects at the same time is essential
  • Minimum of 10 years' work experience with at least 5 years of industry experience
  • Agile Scrum experience preferred
