Department overview:
IHSMarkit's Global IT team consists of over 300 IT Professionals supporting around 15,000 Linux and Windows servers. Support staff are based in 6 major locations (New York, London, Dallas, Boulder, Amsterdam and Noida) which allows Infrastructure to provide 'follow-the-sun' support to our product groups.
Within Global IT, the Architecture and Engineering team aim to deliver a globally consistent operational model with consolidated toolsets and compliant processes across for IHSMarkit. Infrastructure is organized on a Global, Regional and Local basis with the appropriate capabilities in each area to meet the business needs and drive the most efficient organization.
Position summary
Accountable for the following:
• Responsible for the design and build of global solutions and the templates used by delivery teams.
• Participating in or leading project teams geared toward delivery of central and client facing solutions or services
• Writing and reviewing architectural documentation pertaining to strategic initiatives impacting both product and internal infrastructures
• Driving Service Management and Infrastructure Support of the Windows operating platform
• Providing an escalation point for all Windows Production stability issues and project driven work
• Responsible (at varying degrees) for the design, installation, configuration, administration, and operational integrity of complex architectures that contribute to the stability and efficiency of the technical infrastructure
Duties & accountabilities
Technology
• Exhibits ownership in the Windows server infrastructure and is genuinely interested in moving it forward
• Drives an "automate first" approach to all tasks through the use of scripts, orchestration or deployment packaging
• Architects, deploys and documents operating system environments that support a large number of concurrent users and complex applications
• Contributes to the approval of new or amended IT standards, procedures and other quality managed processes. Ensures that adequate technology, procedures and resources are in place to support the quality of the systems
Process
• Maximizes efficiencies by reducing complexity and ensuring adherence to standards where appropriate
• Drives Problem Management Processes to establish root cause for any service outages
• Identifies and plans systemic corrective strategies to reduce errors and improve the quality of Operational services, by examination of the root cause
• Generates appropriate documentation to support relevant processes and systems
• Participates in global on-call rotation
• Challenges current methods and approaches for resolving technical issues, bringing insight and innovation
• Engages collaboratively and manages key product, client, supplier & stakeholder relationships
• Actively contributes to the direction and planning initiatives
• Contributes to the annual planning and budgetary process
• Participates in off-hours work as necessary
• Insures established processes are followed and works to maintain compliance to applicable regulatory audits

• Accountable for his/her own decisions and actions. Manages own projects, deadlines and responsibilities with minimal management overhead
• Coordinates and mentors team members or peers
• Contributes to the establishment of a Global Operating Model

Business competencies
Education and experience

Candidates are likely to be degree educated having studied a subject such as Engineering or Computer Science
• Significant experience in system administration
• Industry recognized certifications (Microsoft, ITIL, etc.)
• Worked in geographically dispersed teams
• Proven experience of managing large scale, disparate Microsoft installations, and working successfully in a complex IT environment, preferably within a financial environment
• Has worked in an acquisition oriented environment and has managed projects around integration, migration or consolidation of Microsoft based resources
• Has worked in and supported regulated environments - SOX, SOC, etc.


Essential Skills
• Windows Server 2008, 2012 and 2016 environments
• Deep Active Directory management
o Group Policy (GPO)
o Complex DNS / DHCP
o Domain migrations and consolidation
• PowerShell and other scripting languages
• Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS
• Strong working knowledge of several of the following technologies or products would be an advantage:
o System Center Products
 Operations Manager 2012 R2
 Configuration Manager 2012 R2
 Orchestrator 2012 R2
o High volume web sites (IIS)
o ADFS, Azure AD, SAML/OAuth
o Microsoft PKI
o iSCSI and FC based SAN storage from the server perspective
o Microsoft DFS-N and DFS-R
o Dell/Quest migration tools
o VMware virtualization and Hyper-V
o Cisco UCS, HP and Dell Server Hardware
