Benefits Specialist, Health
Responsible for assisting with the administration of all US Health & Welfare benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability.
Provides support as needed to ensure ongoing benefits program competitiveness and compliance.
Administrative support for US Health & Welfare Benefit Plans
Manage Benefit Plan premium/fee payments
Work with accounts payable to generate purchase order for vendor payments
Maintain/Update benefits cost tracking (budget) and headcount reports
Reconciliation of Employee Payroll, COBRA and Retiree Medical contributions to outside benefit administrator to internal general ledger
Audits and reconciles financial information and benefit calculations with vendors and payroll to ensure accuracy
Track Performance Guarantees in place with external vendors
Maintain PGs for all vendors
Track quarterly PG results from vendors to ensure met minimum requirements
Coordinates health and life plan death and survivor benefits with vendors and beneficiaries
Handles QMSCOs/Court Ordered benefits
Disability/Leave of Absence Administration
Main contact for escalated issues
Day to day oversight and coordination with disability vendor
Point of escalation for disability related inquiries from employees, HR and managers
Ensures disability vendor records and Alcons HR and Payroll system records are in sync and requests adjustments as needed
Reviews Alcons leave of absence policies and ensures they are consistent with our vendors administrative practices
Educates vendor on updates to Alcons leave policies.
Manage Annual Enrollment communication process
Ad-Hoc benefit communication needs
Manage New Hire communication support
Provide oversight of Benefit Portal to ensure documents are up to date and site is up to date
Assistance with development of disability and leave of absence related summaries
Ensure SPDs are updated annually within required timelines
Ensure annual updates to plan documents, SPDs and vendor plan information when plan changes are made (active & retiree)
Audits and resolves issues related to eligibility and service credit
Assists with ad-hoc projects to support administration or strategic plan design analysis as needed. Participant support
Escalated Health & Welfare questions
Main point of internal contact for participant Retiree Medical questions
Pre-retirement counseling/ retiree medical eligibility
Point of escalated contact for vendors on retiree medical claims and eligibility issues
Assists with retiree medical communications
Counsels participants on Medicare coordination with Alcon plans and completes Medicare forms
1st level contact for HR questions
