Job Description
The Global Risk & Compliance Organization (GRC) is an independent risk management function, led by the Chief Risk Officer, with the objective of ensuring that American Express operates in a safe, sound, and fully compliant manner with all applicable regulatory expectations.
The Enterprise Conduct Risk Management team within Global Risk and Compliance (GRC) is responsible for identifying and managing conduct risk across all processes and geographies at American Express.
The Director, Conduct Risk Management Data Analytics will be part of the GRC organization and will report to the Vice President, Conduct Risk Management. The successful candidate will lead a team of high performing managers and analysts and will be responsible for performing advanced data analytics to identify, measure, monitor, and report on conduct risks. This role is critical in providing independent oversight and challenge on conduct risk program across the enterprise, with a focus on ensuring behaviors and processes align with regulatory expectations and company's Risk Appetite. We are seeking an experienced people leader to be a part of this exciting journey.
This position requires a strong enterprise risk mindset, sound judgment, analytical capability, and the confidence to challenge senior stakeholders constructively. The individual must be able to connect individual risk events and control weaknesses to broader customer, colleague, regulatory, and enterprise impacts.

Responsibilities
- Perform advanced data analytics on enterprise complaints to identify volume, trends, themes within Conduct Risk related complaints (Knowledge of NLP modeling techniques preferred)
- Use advanced AI-ML techniques to identify systemic issues discovered through various data channels, e.g. complaints, Colleague & Labor Relations cases (knowledge of Model Risk Management Framework is preferred)
- Manage end to end monitoring (for trends/themes) and reporting of conduct risk complaints at enterprise level
- Develop and manage repository of data driven indicators (KRIs) to identify areas with high conduct risk likelihood
- Lead independent reviews and credible challenge of first-line practices as they relate to Conduct Risk Identification, governance, reporting, and adherence to policies/regulatory requirements. Identify thematic and systemic weaknesses through these oversight activities, document observations in accordance with applicable risk oversight programs, ensure timely remediation, and escalate material concerns as needed.
- Support ongoing monitoring and assessment of enterprise Conduct risk themes, control effectiveness, and emerging risks to inform risk oversight activities and escalation processes.
- Support the design, maintenance, and ongoing review of conduct risk testing requirements for the enterprise
- Partner with teams across Global Risk and Compliance, Internal Audit Group and other business units with customer facing colleagues to support effective conduct risk mitigation and governance practices.
- Build the best team through proactive coaching and feedback
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Finance, Economics, Risk Management, Information Technology, Data Analytics, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in risk management and data analytics, preferably within the financial services industry.
- Strong understanding of Model Risk Management Framework and other important risk management policies and frameworks like Issue Management policy
- Proven track record in developing and delivering risk insights and communications to senior leadership, highlighting key risks, control performance, and emerging risk themes.
- Demonstrated ability to apply thought leadership and strategic thinking to deliver initiatives to advance a programs' maturity and development
- Ability to Influence senior stakeholders and help embed a strong risk-aware culture throughout the organization, encouraging proactive risk management behaviors at all levels
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills - able to distill complex risk topics into actionable insights for executive audiences.
- A strong sense of integrity and courage to challenge the status quo.
