Summary



We are seeking a Junior DevOps & Quality Automation Engineer to join Charles River Development's Quality Assurance Infrastructure (QAI) team. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career engineer with 1-3 years of experience who is interested in cloud technologies, automation, CI/CD pipelines, environment management, infrastructure engineering, and software quality.



The engineer will help build and support the platforms, tools, and automation used by development and QA teams to deploy, test, and validate Charles River products across multiple environments. The position provides an opportunity to develop practical expertise in Azure, AWS, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD automation, environment provisioning, release engineering, observability, and quality engineering practices.




Responsibilities




DevOps & Platform Engineering

• Support CI/CD pipelines used for application build, deployment, and automated validation.

• Assist with environment provisioning and configuration across development, QA, model office, UAT, and pre-production environments.

• Help automate manual deployment, provisioning, configuration, and operational processes.

• Develop and maintain scripts using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar technologies.

• Assist with Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform and Ansible.

• Support cloud-hosted environments in Microsoft Azure.

• Participate in software release, patch, and hotfix deployment activities.

• Troubleshoot routine environment, infrastructure, deployment, and pipeline failures, escalating complex issues appropriately.

• Assist with monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational health checks.

• Create and maintain deployment documentation, operational runbooks, and troubleshooting guides.

• Contribute to one-click environment creation and automated provisioning initiatives.

• Support engineering teams with environment-related troubleshooting and operational requests.

• Follow established security, compliance, source-control, and DevSecOps practices.

• Participate in platform modernization, cloud adoption, and continuous-improvement initiatives.

Quality Engineering Support

• Support automated execution of smoke, regression, and release-validation test suites.

• Assist with integrating automated tests and quality gates into CI/CD pipelines.

• Help investigate test failures and distinguish infrastructure, test-data, automation, and application issues.

• Collaborate with QA and development teams during release-validation activities.

• Participate in defect triage and root-cause analysis as needed.

• Assist with maintaining test environments and test data.

• Learn and apply software testing and quality-engineering fundamentals.

Required Qualifications




Education

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

• Recent graduates with relevant internships, co-op assignments, certifications, or academic projects are encouraged to apply.

Experience

• 1-3 years of professional experience in DevOps, cloud operations, system administration, infrastructure engineering, software engineering, or quality engineering.

• Relevant internship, co-op, or entry-level industry experience may be considered.

Technical Skills

• Basic understanding of CI/CD concepts and exposure to Jenkins, TeamCity, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or a similar tool.

• Familiarity with Git and source-control workflows.

• Basic scripting experience using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or Shell.

• Understanding of software build, deployment, and release processes.

• Exposure to Azure or AWS cloud platforms.

• Basic knowledge of Infrastructure as Code concepts.

• Foundational knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems.

• Basic knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, firewalls, and SSL certificates.

• Understanding of the software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies.

• Foundational understanding of smoke, functional, regression, and automated testing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on exposure to Terraform and Ansible.

• Exposure to Docker and Kubernetes.

• Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900), AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, or another entry-level cloud certification.

• Experience using Jira and Confluence.

• Knowledge of API testing fundamentals.

• Limited exposure to tools such as Playwright, Selenium, Postman, or REST Assured.

• Academic, internship, or personal project experience involving cloud deployment or automation.

• Experience in financial services or another regulated industry is a plus.

Salary Range:

$52,000 - $91,000 Annual



The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
