Equity Research Analyst - Utilities

$15bn+ Multi-Strategy Hedge Fund | New York City

We are currently representing a leading $15bn+ multi-strategy hedge fund in the search for a Utilities Equity Research Analyst to join an established Portfolio Manager's team based in Midtown Manhattan.

This is an expansion hire, driven by continued growth and capital allocation within a successful US-focused Energy strategy. The Portfolio Manager oversees a broad energy portfolio spanning traditional energy, utilities, and midstream investments and is seeking to add a dedicated Utilities specialist to an existing team of three analysts.

This opportunity offers exposure to a highly regarded investment platform with institutional infrastructure, significant resources, and a collaborative culture, while still retaining the entrepreneurial feel of a lean investment team.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will work directly with the Portfolio Manager and investment team, taking primary responsibility for Utilities coverage across the North American market.

You will be expected to develop differentiated investment views, generate actionable long and short ideas, and become the team's subject matter expert across regulated utilities, independent power producers, transmission, renewable utilities, and related subsectors.

The role provides significant visibility within the investment process and offers the opportunity to influence portfolio construction through fundamental research and idea generation.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct deep fundamental research across the Utilities sector
• Build and maintain detailed operating and valuation models
• Generate differentiated long and short investment ideas
• Analyze regulatory developments, power markets, rate cases, and industry dynamics
• Perform channel checks, expert calls, and broader industry research
• Monitor earnings, catalysts, and company-specific developments across coverage
• Work closely with the PM and broader analyst team on portfolio positioning and risk assessment
• Present investment recommendations directly to senior decision-makers

Candidate Profile

• Ideally 1-3 years of experience covering Utilities equities
• Strong preference for candidates with buy-side experience, particularly within long/short equity investing environments
• High-quality sell-side Utilities analysts will also be considered
• Demonstrated interest and expertise within Utilities and adjacent energy sectors
• Strong financial modeling and valuation capabilities
• Ability to think independently and develop variant perceptions
• Commercial mindset with excellent communication and presentation skills
• Desire to work within a fast-paced, performance-driven investment environment
