Barclays' MD promotions include two people in its leaky rates team

After Citi, Barclays announced it new managing directors (MDs) yesterday. Bloomberg published the full list first and noted that of the 118 people promoted, 68 are in the investment bank. We have listed the entire 118 below.

Secreted among them are two people on the Barclays' macro trading team, which has experienced various departures in the past year.

Seb Fassam, Barclays' of head EUR swaps, GBP swaps and gilts trading is on the list. So too is Tomos Nitz, another rates trader on the desk.

Neither Nitz nor Fassam responded to requests to comment for this article. Nitz has been at Barclays for 23 years. Fassam rejoined the bank from Goldman Sachs in 2018.

Barclays' macro trading team has lost many people in the past year. They include Noel Cochrane, who went to Deutsche Bank in August; James Armstrong, who disappeared to Balyasny in June; Nico Huss, who ejected himself to Citi in September; Ankur Aneja, who has appeared at BlueCrest; Justin Firmino, who reappeared at Brevan Howard last month although Brevan Howard didn't confirm his arrival when asked; and Nishant Singh who's gone to BlueCrest.

Fassam and Nitz will presumably be staying at Barclays for a while. Bloomberg said in September that more than two dozen macro traders had been added by the British bank, including Lucile Medori and Laura Brown. Brown, who joined from JPMorgan as a director, appeared on the desk this week.

Barclays declined to comment on its promotions.
