Hudson River Trading paid £820k per head to its UK staff and spent £2.4m per head on equipment
Hudson River Trading insiders told Bloomberg earlier this month that the firm's culture is a bit like 'luxury communism' due to its egalitarian pay structure. Recent accounts for the electronic trading firm's UK entities suggest that this is a slight exaggeration.

HRT has filed accounts for 2025 across three entities, 'Hudson River Trading Europe Ltd,' 'HRT Research Ltd' and 'HRTSVC Ltd.' Headcount across the three entities rose to 165 from 152 in 2024, but pay across the three entities was not distributed evenly.
The highest paying entity was HRT research, which "provides research and technology services." The entity paid 22 employees an average of £1.69m; it paid 24 employees an average of £944k in 2024.
HRT Europe is the firm's proprietary trading arm. It paid 21 employees an average of £1.47m. HRTSVC, which "support[s] the global trading platform used by related companies," is the largest entity by headcount and paid 122 employees an average of £550k. Across all entities, average pay was £820k.
HRT isn't just increasing spending on wages. HRTSVC's cash flow statement showed £391m of additional spending, equivalent to £2.4m per head, on 'property plant and equipment.' This might be spending on AI infrastrucutre; now-expired job listings at HRT have said the firm has "very high GPU-to-research ratios" and "triple-digit petabyte-scale storage."
