Solutions Architect - Core Banking

About the role

We are seeking a Solutions Architect with strong domain expertise across Core Banking, Cards and Payment Hub environments. This role will lead the design of secure, scalable and resilient solution architectures that support business and technology transformation initiatives.

The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of Australian banking and card payments, along with strong technical capability across microservices, cloud architecture, APIs, integration patterns, databases and infrastructure. This role will work closely with internal engineering teams, operations, cybersecurity stakeholders and Fiserv architects to define approved connectivity patterns, enable secure integrations and establish robust platform monitoring and alerting capabilities.

This role can be based in either Sydney or Melbourne.

What you will do:

• Design end-to-end solution architecture for platforms supporting Core Banking, Cards and Payment Hub capabilities.
• Translate business, operational and regulatory requirements into scalable architectural solutions.
• Define architecture patterns for microservices-based applications and distributed platforms.
• Lead secure cloud and hybrid architecture design, including integration between cloud services and on-premises infrastructure where required.
• Partner with delivery, engineering and infrastructure teams to ensure architecture is implementable, supportable and aligned with enterprise standards.
• Work with Fiserv architects to review and approve connectivity patterns, interface designs and deployment approaches.
• Support firewall opening processes, connectivity enablement and required Fiserv Cyber approval activities.
• Establish and guide implementation of platform observability, including monitoring, logging, alerting and operational health capabilities in line with approved standards.
• Define and govern API architecture, API security controls and event-driven integration patterns.
• Support solution design across internal and external system integrations, including banking, card processing and payment ecosystems.
• Provide technical leadership on infrastructure, networking and platform dependencies.
• Ensure architecture decisions consider performance, resilience, security, compliance and operational support requirements.
• Contribute to architecture governance, design reviews, risk assessment and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support successful implementation and transition into production.

What you will need to have:

• Deep domain knowledge in Core Banking platforms, and experience in Cards and Payments Hub ecosystems.
• Good understanding of local Australian banking and cards landscape, including payment processing and integration considerations.
• Experience working in regulated financial services environments.
• Proven experience designing enterprise-grade solutions across cloud and hybrid environments.
• Strong experience with microservices architecture and modern application design principles.
• Cloud architecture expertise, including hybrid integration patterns.
• Strong API design and API security knowledge.
• Strong event integration knowledge, including asynchronous and event-driven architectures.
• Strong Python development or scripting knowledge.
• Strong MySQL and NoSQL database skills.
• Strong network and IT infrastructure knowledge.
• Experience connecting cloud services with on-premises environments securely and reliably.
• Experience establishing monitoring, alerting and operational support capabilities for enterprise platforms.
• Understanding of security controls, connectivity approvals and enterprise integration governance.

What will be good to have:

• Experience working with banking, card issuing, acquiring or payment switching platforms.
• Experience working with enterprise cybersecurity, network and infrastructure approval processes.
• Experience in large-scale platform modernization or transformation programs.
• Familiarity with architecture governance in complex enterprise environments.
• Relevant cloud, architecture or security certifications are desirable.
