Payroll Team Leader needed for a specialist role in the project space looking compliance and remediation.Your new company
Hays is partnering with a large, complex organisation undertaking significant payroll compliance and remediation initiatives. We are seeking an experienced payroll leader to drive payroll project delivery, compliance outcomes and remediation activities across a sizeable workforce. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior payroll professional who combines deep legislative knowledge with strong leadership, stakeholder management and payroll project experience.
Your new role
Reporting into a senior payroll leadership function, you will lead a specialist team responsible for payroll compliance projects, remediation activities and governance initiatives. You will oversee complex payroll calculations, compliance reviews and project delivery while supporting continuous improvement across payroll operations. This role requires a hands-on leader who can provide technical payroll expertise whilst building strong relationships across Payroll, HR, Employee Relations, Systems and Finance teams.

• Lead payroll compliance and remediation projects from planning through to delivery.
• Oversee complex payroll calculations, adjustments and remediation payments.
• Drive payroll governance, risk management and compliance outcomes.
• Identify payroll risks and implement corrective actions and improvement initiatives.
• Lead payroll auditing, quality assurance and pre- and post-pay review activities.
• Partner with Payroll, HR, Employee Relations, Finance and Systems teams to ensure legislative compliance.
• Develop reporting, dashboards and performance metrics to support project outcomes.
• Lead continuous improvement, payroll process optimisation and system enhancement initiatives.
• Manage escalated payroll enquiries and complex employee matters.
• Coach, mentor and develop a small specialist payroll team.

What you'll need to succeed
Extensive Australian payroll experience within a complex organisation.Proven experience leading payroll compliance, remediation or transformation projects.
Strong understanding of payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation and industrial instruments.
Demonstrated experience managing complex payroll calculations and reconciliations.
Experience leading or mentoring payroll teams.
Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
Advanced Excel and payroll reporting capability.
High attention to detail and the ability to work across multiple priorities simultaneously.
Experience working with large HRIS and payroll platforms.
