Job Description

This Vice President & Actuary position is responsible for leading and managing the actuarial staff for Westchester Digital/Middle Market and coordinating the Westchester Actuarial effort to improve system driven pricing, as well as the data and reporting strategy. The role is based in Philadelphia, PA and reports to the Lead Actuary for Westchester.

Duties and Responsibilities related to this position:

• Westchester Digital/Middle Market support:
  
  • Work closely with WSG management to set priorities and coordinate the actuarial support
  • Manage a team of two actuaries, including setting the staff's priorities/workloads and training/developing
  • Complete/Oversee annual pricing studies, as well as ad-hoc pricing study requests
  • Complete/Oversee monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements, including price monitoring and NvR, as well as the improvement of these reports as appropriate.
  • Assist in developing the annual financial plan
  • Work with the predictive analytics team as needed
• Systems and Reporting:
  
  • Work closely with WSG management and IT to complete product enhancements in Fast Track and improve system driven rating
  • Oversee actuarial testing to confirm proper execution of system enhancements.
  • Ensure prioritization and execution of systems items needing actuarial support through involvement in ongoing meetings with IT
  • Create consistency in rating and reporting across WSG where possible, working with other NA actuarial groups where appropriate
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of pricing models and assumptions

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• 10+ years of actuarial pricing or reserving experience
• ACAS or FCAS certification preferred, or equivalent industry qualifications.
• Proficiency in Excel is required. Familiarity with programming languages and tools such as Radar / SQL / R / Python is advantageous but not required. Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn new tools and technologies.
• Previous managerial or supervisory experience is strongly preferred but not required. We are open to individuals who have demonstrated leadership potential in other ways, such as leading projects or mentoring colleagues.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are essential to excel in this role.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills are required, along with the ability to prioritize multiple competing deliverables and manage time effectively to meet scheduled due dates.
• Strong collaboration skills are important, with the ability to work closely with individuals from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to provide clear and concise verbal and written communications to stakeholders at various levels of the organization.
