23-year-old ex-Goldman Sachs analyst facing eviction ignored after asking for help
Last week, a 23 year-old ex-Goldman Sachs analyst who burned out and left the firm's New York office, started a GoFundMe.
In mid-July, he said he was penniless after leaving Goldman Sachs' technology media and telecoms (TMT) group before analyst bonuses are paid. Last week, he said he was being evicted from his flat and needed to raise $5k to cover "emergency rent, legal filings, and basic relocation support."
He spent 13 months on Goldman's healthcare TMT team before burning out and leaving. He claimed to have been worked "past the brink" by an unnamed Goldman vice president (VP) whom he said would hand out, "deliverables assigned at midnight, due by 9am," and work him for 40 hours straight.
Goldman Sachs isn't commenting on the claims. Instagram account Litquidity said previously that people at the firm were concerned about him after he unexpectedly quit after taking a week off for burnout. Former colleagues don't appear to have rushed to his aid, however. As things stand, he has raised only $519 from only 11 people. The largest donation is for $200.
The lack of sympathy stands in contrast to previous GoFundMes in the banking industry. When Leo Lukenas, a former Bank of America associate, died last year, the industry donated $1m. However, Lukenas had died due to possible overwork and the subsequent GoFundMe was to help support his wife and children. Lukenas had also previously been a green beret in the US special forces. By comparison, some have asked questions how the Goldman analyst has ended up penniless after a year in a job with a salary of circa $110k.
The GoFundMe remains live. He's removed a link to the page from his LinkedIn profile, where he said he'd always tried to be resilient and "worked hard, rose fast, and rarely asked for help — even when I should have."
