A Google cloud director left after 20 years to join Goldman Sachs
Nowadays, AI labs like OpenAI are the most attractive destination for technologists but, in the early 2000s, tech giants like Google ruled the roost. Jordyn Buchanan joined as an engineering manager back in 2006 and stayed there for two decades; he's finally moving on, but he's opting for a move into finance.

Buchanan, now in his early 50s, announced via LinkedIn that he's joining Goldman Sachs as a managing director. It's not clear what his exact role is, but he worked most recently on Google's cloud transformation. He says he was involved in creating policies for internal consumption of its primary compute services (Google Compute Engine and Google Kubernetes engine), as well as its AI enterprise agent platform.
Rather than working in California, Buchanan spent his Google tenure in New York. He first joined in the city to build out its site reliability team, but went on to work in its storage infrastructure team, then its domains team.
All this probably sounds good to Goldman, which is building out its AI powered 'operating system' known as OneGS 3.0. The bank is looking for areas to streamline with AI, and has already cut a small number of jobs as part of this.
Buchanan is one of many big tech alums to switch to Goldman Sachs. The firm's chief information officer, Marco Argenti, joined from AWS in 2019 and has been one of the bank's biggest AI proponents.
