Humble quant with exquisite tastes seeks $250k researcher for fun times
We often write here about Giuseppe (Gappy) Paleologo and would like to think that we were the first to recognise his wry talents back in early 2024, before he became famous and appeared on Bloomberg's Odd Lots podcast last summer.

Paleologo is now at multistrategy hedge fund Balyasny Asset Management where he is global head of quant research and the sort of boss who says things like "the kindness of strangers is the best kindness" and "you can work 14hr/day at a firm and, within 6 months from your departure, you'll be vastly forgotten."
Paleologo also reads widely, quotes Borges and watches the the finest films. If you want to work with him at Balynasy, he is hiring. If get to work with the most wryly refined of quants, Balyasny will pay you a salary of $225k-$275k (based on New York salaries), plus a bonus. There are openings on his team (for senior quant researchers in "portfolio manager engagement") in Hong Kong and London, too.
Writing on X, Paleologo says his jobs are fun. He says they involve modelling, but also humans. They are about the quantitative replication of the " almost infinite facets of the fundamental investment process," and the implementation of those insights into code. Portfolio managers then use these quantitative insights to become better investors.
It sounds fun. If you want the jobs you'll need seven years' experience. You'll need to be able to talk to portfolio managers about "offensive risk taking." You'll also need to be able to speak to Paleologo, who says he has high standards. If you want a primer, his quant reading list is here and his own books are available here. Poetry, philosophy and gnocchi are also favourite topics.
